Stepely Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 11, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the Stepely step counter application handles your information. It applies to the application, including its optional Health Connect integration. The copy at https://stepely.com/legal/privacy-policy describes the same application practices.

Stepely is provided by the Stepely developer. For privacy questions or application support, contact [email protected]. Our website is https://stepely.com.

Information processed and its purposes

Stepely processes step counts, measurement dates and times, movement duration, manual adjustments, and information identifying the source of step records. If you enable detailed phone recording, it also stores minute-level measurement batches. These data are used to count steps, display activity history and reports, recover missing measurements, and support the imports and exports you choose.

You may optionally enter your height and weight. These values are used locally to estimate distance, calories, and related activity metrics. Stepely also stores your activity goals, preferences, and application settings. You do not need to create a Stepely account.

Stepely does not request access to your location, contacts, microphone, or camera. The application does not include advertising or analytics services, and does not sell your personal or health data or use them for advertising.

Phone activity permissions and background recording

Physical activity permission allows Stepely to use the phone's step sensors. When recording is enabled, step counting may continue while the application is closed, with an ongoing notification. Notification permission allows Stepely to display its activity notification. You can pause phone recording from the main screen and manage these permissions in Android settings.

Optional gap recovery uses the on-device Recording API in Google Play services (FitnessLocal). This API does not require a Google Account and stores its fitness recordings on the device. Records since the latest subscription or renewal are accessible for up to 10 days. Turning off recovery stops Stepely's subscription and access to that subscription history; it does not delete steps already saved in Stepely.

Optional Health Connect integration

Connecting Health Connect is optional. With your permission, Stepely reads only step records and related metadata, including record periods, source application identifiers and names, and whether a record was entered manually. This information is used to import step history, list available step sources, and show steps from the source you select. Permission to read older history enables imports and source discovery across the available history.

A separate background read permission allows Stepely to update the selected Health Connect source and activity notification while the application is closed. Without this permission, Stepely can read permitted records while the application is open. You can manage or revoke Health Connect permissions in Health Connect settings.

Writing to Health Connect is enabled separately by you. When enabled, Stepely exports its own phone step measurements and, only if you also enable this option, your manual step adjustments. Stepely does not export your height, weight, calorie estimates, or distance estimates to Health Connect. Automatic export covers new data after you enable it; exporting earlier history requires a separate command.

Other applications may read the records exported to Health Connect if you give those applications permission. Their use of those records is governed by their own privacy policies. Stepely uses Health Connect data only for the activity features described here; it does not send those data to the developer or use them for advertising, sale, credit decisions, or unrelated profiling.

Storage, retention, and security

Your activity history, optional profile information, and settings are stored in the application's private storage on your device. Stepely does not operate an application backend that receives these data and does not automatically upload activity history or diagnostic logs to the developer. Android automatic backup is disabled for Stepely application data.

Local history is retained until you delete it or replace it through an available import operation; there is no automatic retention expiry for the history saved in Stepely. Replacing history during import requires confirmation and preserves your profile and settings.

Stepely relies on Android's application storage isolation and permission controls to protect local data. Diagnostic messages help identify application errors. Diagnostic history is limited and kept in memory, without automatic transmission to the developer. In standard release builds, step values, record time ranges, and native stack traces are excluded from diagnostic logging. No method of storage can guarantee absolute security.

Android, Google Play services, Health Connect, and other services installed on your device operate under their own settings and privacy policies. Data retained by those services is managed separately from Stepely's local storage.

Your choices and deletion

You can pause phone step recording on the main screen, disable recovery or export in Stepely's Health Connect settings, and revoke physical activity or notification permissions in Android settings. Revoking Health Connect access prevents further access under those permissions but does not delete previously imported records from Stepely.

To delete Stepely's local history, profile, and settings, go to Android Settings > Apps > Stepely > Storage > Clear data (the wording may vary by device), or uninstall the application. The developer cannot remotely access or delete data stored only on your device.

Clearing Stepely's storage or uninstalling Stepely does not delete records previously exported to Health Connect. Manage or delete those records separately in Health Connect. Turning off export stops future exports but does not remove earlier exports.
